The St. Rose Fire Dept was formed and held its first meeting on Nov. 11, 1964, with only 2 coats, 2 helmets, 2 pair of boots, and a 1954 Ford pumper. The 22 original firemen would pass a collection hat around at the meetings to help pay for gas and oil in the truck. As the years went on, fund raisers were held, additional equipment was purchased, and we now have a staff of 36 firemen and 3 directors as well as three pumpers, two tankers, a supply pumper, an off-road utv, and a rescue truck.
Our recent ISO rating of 6, and 21 members completing a State Certified first responder coarse, as well as the completion of our own unique supply pumper, are just a few examples that prove our dedication and lasting commitment to our community and to our district.
We pride ourselves on the fact that we try to keep our tax rate low for our community, and still have the money to keep our equipment current. Our small town is not incorporated, so we do not receive many of the tax advantages many of our surrounding towns do. Therefore, we hold fundraisers throughout the year to help pay for our equipment and training.
St. Rose is a small farming town located in Clinton County IL, and our fire district covers approximately 36 square miles.
